"Isn't Nightwing the grown up version of Robin?"
Quoting Wiki: "Nightwing is a name that has been used by several fictional characters in the DC Comics Universe. It was conceived as a Kryptonian analogue to the character of Batman, with Nightwing's frequent partner Flamebird based on Robin. Both before Crisis on Infinite Earths and after it, the Nightwing persona originates with a Kryptonian vigilante taking the name of the "nightwing", a bird native to the planet Krypton.
Pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths, the identity is created by Superman, when he and Jimmy Olsen act as vigilantes during trips to the bottle city of Kandor. Post-Crisis, the name is attributed to a historic Kryptonian crimefighter; this hero serves as an inspiration for Dick Grayson when he sheds his Robin identity and assumes the name and a new costume. Grayson was featured in an ongoing Nightwing series between 1996 and 2009. The current Nightwing is General Zod's son Chris Kent."
Yes, Nightwing is later used by Dick Grayson. Robin is later used by Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damlan Wane to name a few. So... yeah, and stuff.
There have been four robins till now.
Robin I: Dick Grayson, the original boy wonder. Circus acrobat who got both his parents killed by Two-Faces. Eventually outgrew being Robin and took on his own wings as Nightwing. Historic leader of the Teen Titans.
Robin II: Jason Todd. Street orphan who stole tires from the Batmobile. He eventually set on a quest to find his own mother, only for the woman to betray him and cause both their death from Joker. He eventually got better and decided to become a more lethal vigilante, alias the Red Hood, when he realized that just putting the Joker and other crazies away in Arkham just doesn't work.
Robin III: Tim Drake. Rich boy with a knack for detective work who figured out Batman's true identity, worried about his darkening after Jason's death. Eventually took on the mantle of the Red Robin when Bruce died, not believing it to be the case and set on finding him.
Robin IV: Damian Wayne, Bruce's and Talia's biological son who Bats took in to avoid the now crazed Talia from turning him into an even more lethal assassin.
